"I know your
works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is
able to shut; I know that you have but little power, and yet you
have kept my word and have not denied my name." (Revelation
3:8 – RSV) These words that
the Resurrected Lord sent to a small congregation centuries ago
apply to the English sector at St. Peters. Jesus loves His church.
He has provided the open door of Sunday worship for your community
for more than fifty years. We thank Him for His assurance that He
will keep the door open. I was delighted
when Dr.Taul called me to ask if I would help out with English
language services. You may want to
know something about my life so far. Before retiring to Toronto, I
served for seventeen years at Redeemer Lutheran in Sudbury. Prior
to that I was a student at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Fort
Wayne, Indiana. I have worked in the banking business in the
Boston area, where I come from, served for four years in the US
army, working as a linguist. I graduated from the University of
Chicago in 1964 with a BA in history. I have one sister, Betsy,
who lives outside Albany, New York. She has three children and
along with her husband is looking forward to retirement later in
the year. You may want to know, too, that I spend a lot of time
writing fiction and reading. May the Lord
bless you richly in this new year. Pastor

On
the Wings of Prayer
Just
close your eyes and open your heart And
feel your worries and cares depart, Just
yield yourself to the Father above And
let Him hold you secure in His love… For
life on earth grows more involved With
endless problems that can’t be solved – But
God only asks us to do our best, Then
He will “take over” and finish the rest… So
when you are tired, discouraged and blue, There’s
always one door that is open to you – And
that is the door to “The House of Prayer” And
you’ll find God waiting to meet you there… And
“The House of Prayer” is no farther away Than
the quiet spot where you kneel and pray – For
the heart is a temple when God is there As
we place ourselves in His loving care. And
He hears every prayer and answers each one When
we pray in His name “Thy will be done” – And
the burdens that seemed too heavy to bear Are
lifted away on “the wings of prayer.” |
